Bluefish in the 6-to-12-pound class hit jigs for anglers on both the Jamaica from Brielle and the Queen Mary out of Point Pleasant today. The Queen Mary also reported the last two Magic Hours trips were very good, with stripers up to 48 pounds caught. Bob Matthews report in Friday's column of large striper catches weighed in at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina referred to the nine 50-pounders among many 30-and-40-pounders. Raritan Reach fluking is coming back after the sudden drop-off on Monday. Capt. Ron Santee of the Fishermen at Atlantic Highlands said finally having wind and tide together for a good drift made all the difference. Bucktailing was best today, and produced one of the few limits. C.J. Leonardie (11) won the pool with a 7.7-pound fluke, and his father Charlie added a 6.4-pounder. Don Marantz of Clarksburg fished aboard the Prowler V, and took the pool with a 5-pound fluke. Capt. Vinny Vetere of Katfish Charters at Great Kills fished the river today with live bunkers as his charter caught 15 stripers up to 25 pounds. Allen Riley of South Plainfield couldn't follow up on two straight mornings of small blues on poppers at Monmouth Beach. It was foggy this morning in a light northeast wind, but the water temperature was finally up to 70 degrees. Vinnie D'Anton of Shark River Hills was shut out casting at dawn in Shark River before moving to the Avon surf where he caught a short striper on a Chug Bug, and another on a small Zoom jig. I pounded away in the same area without a touch. All are welcome to attend my fishing tackle garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1552 Osprey Ct., Manasquan Park 08736 (732 223-5729).
