Adam La Rosa reports for the Canyon Runner fleet at Point Pleasant that it was quality rather than quantity in the canyons recently as follows:
Quantity or Quality?! 4 for 4 on "Big-Eyes" ONE SPOT OPEN THIS SATURDAY-SUNDAY - $899 ON 48 VIKING
********************************* Now for the past Reports............. Quality - Not Quantity or just Glass Half Full? 4 for 4 on Big-Eye!!!! Little Big-Eyes Capt. Phil Dulanie backed up a nice big-eye this past week with a quick day trip to the Toms Canyon on Sunday to fish the Jack Meyer Tournament with the Manasquan River Marlin & Tuna Club with Adam LaRosa and friends and found the canyons looking promising. Fishing among pilot whales and tons of slicks and birds we had just 2 bites. We went 1 for 1 and 3 for 3 on BIG-EYES! They all hit ballyhoo. Combined weight - maybe a 100 pounds - coolest little fish we've seen. Yes they were big-eyes without question - but do they really count when they're that small? Better trip was our annual 4th of July trip with a bunch of Veterans. We once again donated the trip to 6 Vets (most of whom were wounded in action) and while it wasn't red hot fishing they all had a great time and we had our best trip of the year with them! Quality - not Quantity. Below are pics from Dr. John Bednar's trip earlier in the week and those big-eye caught Sunday!
BIGGEST NEWS IS A LAST MINUTE OPEN SPOT ON THE 48 VIKING THIS SATURDAY TO SUNDAY - $899 - JULY 9-10
So email or call me ASAP if you want to get in on this fishing - haven't seen it this good in a long time up and down the edge.
The Golden Eagle from Belmar got into good jigging for 2-to-4-pound bluefish early and late, but it was only a pick during the middle of the day.
The Jamaica from Brielle fished offshore over the July 4 weekend . After a good Friday, Saturday was poor until 2-to-6-pound blues hit after noon. The night trip produced about 100 small blues plus a 55-inch mako shark. Sunday was poor despite good readings, as only a few blues up to 3.5 pounds hit. On July 4 there were lots of chub mackerel and a few blues.
Vinnie D'Anton of Shark River Hills cast his Chug Bug in the river this morning to catch four short stripers. I tried the surf from Sea Girt to Spring Lake without raising a thing to my popper. Finishing up with fluke at Bay Head produced a 16 1/2-incher that would have been legal a few miles further south at Island Beach State Park, plus a 15 1/2-incher.
