The unexpected gusty northeast wind put a big dent in morning fishing along the Shore, but Capt. Ron Santee said it worked out just fine in Raritan Bay as there were lots of keeper fluke on his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands. The ladies did especially well as Nicole Mirolsky ended up with four keepers to the 6.7-pound pool winner. Another lady caught her limit from among eight of legal size. Capt. Ron Sr. settled for three up to 6.3 pounds. A 29-inch striper was also boated. Best of all, there was no rain. That was quite a contrast to the Shore, Vinnie D'Anton and I were casting from the shore into Shark River as we watched the Big Mohawk from Belmar head out with a big Monday crowd of fluke anglers -- only to watch that large party boat return a half-hour later.  I later talked to an angler who had traveled from upstate N.Y. for a charter, but his skipper told him it was too rough to sail. Vinnie caught a small blue on a paddletail jig, and I later released two 4-pounders on a Tsunami popper, while two others jumped off. The Jamaica from Brielle reported an excellent Sunday trip for chub mackerel along with a couple of blues. Ron Siwa of Chicago won the pool with a 3.5-pound mackerel.  Two sharks were released.  The Tuesday afternoon fish and fireworks trip will not sail. The Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational results have still not been posted.
