1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

The weather held long enough for anglers to get their best licks in during today's JCAA Fluke Tournament which ended at 5 p.m.  I'll post the statewide results when available. You won't see John De Bona's name in the results, as we experienced poor fishing at several spots from Ambrose to Jamaica Bay We fished with David Schnall of Montville on his 28-foot Regulator from Gateway Marina in Highlands, along with Rich Dunn of Brick and Austin Perelli from Brooklyn. I caught a couple of keepers, and Dunn added another, but none were over 20 inches and hardly in contention. Very few fluke were coming into the Gateway Marina weigh-in, but the one at Jersey City had a late spurt with good fluke catches coming in from nearby areas in Hudson River -- which also produced an early doormat. There were no reports from the northern party boat fleet. The news from the Shore bluefish fleet wasn't good. The Golden Eagle from Belmar looked for blues, but didn't find any that would hit. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant got into sea bass on Friday before building up a school of chub mackerel that produced up to 40 a man. However, Capt. Dave Riback summed up today's fishing as "terrible". Vinny D'Anton reported his grandson, Brandon Kinsella (12) of Fairfield cast a Chug Bug into he Belmar surf this evening to release a 16-inch striper.
