The Silver Anniversary MidAtlantic gets started tomorrow with good weather coming up after Monday's northwester. The long term outlook is for light winds the rest of the week. That offshore trolling tournament may have a purse of over $3 million by the time today's captains meeting is over.The scales close at 9 p.m. each of the next five days as boaters fish any three of the five. I'll add a late night entry to my daily blog in order to update each day's results. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported another good day of jigging small blues to the north as the choppers were picked all day. The Jamaica from Brielle didn't find chub mackerel on Saturday where they had left them the day before, but found a giant school to the north that produced big quantities of mackerel plus a few blues and several dolphin.  Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park weighed a 29.5-inch fluke at 11 pounds for Zach Messerol who caught it on Gulp from a boat. Joe Melillo, at Castaway's Tackle in Point Pleasant, said jumbo bluefish were hooked on jigs and metal by anglers casting into Point Pleasant Canal before daylight. Capt. Chris DeGennaro had an encouraging report on Barnegat Bay weakfish as follows: "I had two afternoon trips on Thurs and Fri that produced some weakfish, Fri better than Thurs, and then yesterday morning it lit up really good. While most of the fish we are catching are 12 to 15 inches, we had fish up to 19 inches on these trips. We are using six pound spinning gear with live grass shrimp for bait on the east side of Barnegat Bay. The fish are hitting on both tides as long as the water is moving. Sometimes using a bobber is the hot rod, an hour later it's the shad dart or just a freeline hook with shrimp. I try to keep a few different techniques going all the time until we key in on what's working best at that moment. We are also catching quite a few fluke in the chum slick, not keepers, but 12 to 17.9999999 inch fish and they are a blast on light tackle. Too many snapper blues, some blowfish, sand sharks, and juvenile sea bass are also in the mix. The marine forecast is not going to allow me to run to the Ridge for a stretch here so we will be hitting it hard in the bay. Tomorrow (Mon) is wide open for morning or afternoon trips and then Tues thru Fri I will be running Noon departures for the live grass shrimp weakies as well as some other combo opportunities.  Charter or Open Boat.Pics: Doug Cromwell of Hopewell, NJ with a 17 inch weakie from Friday.Capt.
