It's been a long time coming, but there are finally big bluefish for party boat anglers along with the first little tunny.  The Jamaica from Brielle got into the big blues during their Friday night trip as choppers up to 18 pounds were recorded along with only a few chub mackerel. The Golden Eagle from Belmar was catching 1-pound blues on Friday, but today had 10-to-14-pounders that hit mostly on bait -- plus a few little tunny. The little tunny dominated on the Queen Mary from Point Pleasant as the high hook caught 10 of them along with three blues. Capt. Dave Riback reported jigs were best. There were no fluke reports from the north, but Friday reports were mostly of only a few keepers among shorts in Raritan Bay. The Jamaica's Thursday night canyon trip started off fine with dolphin, but only a couple of yellowfins and two swordfish were caught at night though there were plenty of whales plus readings of fish and bait. They even moved down a canyon and hooked some marlin in the morning. A whale shark was spotted, and they ended up with 110 dolphin. Some room may be available on Sunday's trip. Vinny D'Anton again found no casting action in Shark River, but went to the Belmar surf and plugged a 3 1/2-to-4-pound bluefish on a Chug Bug. Joe Melillo, at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant said anglers casting jigs at night for stripers were getting their plastic tails clipped off by medium-sized blues in Point Pleasant Canal. Blackfishing there with green crabs remains a best bet. +
