A lot of time was lost to northeasters, but the long term benefit of getting the fall striped bass season underway may make up for that. Boaters have been trolling some bass at Shrewsbury Rocks, and the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands has been doing well on its night trip on live eels. The Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands will begin daily sailing for stripers on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Vinny D'Anton of Wall fished a Monmouth County beach this morning, and raised bass to his Chug Bug -- catching three from 30 to 34 inches plus two shorts. He kept one bass that had nothing at all in its stomach. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park reports lots of small blues on bait in the surf, plus reports of some school bass on clams.
