The forecast of gale force NW winds pretty much shut down weekend boating along the Shore, but party boats will resume sailing on Monday. The Golden Eagle from from Belmar postponed Sunday's canyon trip to next Sunday but will be bluefishing Monday at 7:30 a.m. The Cock Robin from Point Pleasant will do the same, but Elaine B. II from Bahrs in Highlands will wait until 7 a.m. Tuesday to resume bottom fishing. The northwest wind should flatten the surf. An angler I talked to this morning had tried Asbury Park before daylight with no sign of fish, but said the surf was clear. Leif Pettersen has been catching every morning at Deal on his chartreuse Snake Fly. There was a 23-inch striper Thursday; a 2-pound blue Friday; a 24-inch fluke Saturday; and a 28-inch bass this morning. Matt Slobodjian reports from Jim's Tackle in Cape May as follows: "Most of the reports on the surf this week were small blues and small stripers. I did weigh one for a local guy that was 8 lbs. but that was the only keeper we saw this week. The Blackfish were thick on the rock piles this week, we are still only allowed one but the action is a blast. The guys fishing Cold Spring Jetty from boats are doing really well on the tog. A few keeper Bass are starting to show up around the inlet this last week along with a few surprises. Derek Garbarino was fishing the rocks and boated a 13.92lb. sheepshead while togging. Mike Iacovelli of Vineland caught the biggest trigger Fish we've seen this year at 4.86lbs. Boats fishing the Cape May Reef Thursday reported good numbers of sea bass released and quite a few nice porgies on the wrecks. It was a total blowout for the opening day. Hopefully the sea bass will still be there when it calms down.Offshore the best tuna bite we heard of was up in the Hudson Canyon. The guys are catching some swordfish and a bunch of mahi down here, but only a few yellowfins."
