After a tough Sunday for the party boat fleet, striped bass turned back on Monday. Miss Belmar Princess reported bunkers were attacked regularly, and they ended up with 15 bass that were mostly over 30 pounds. John Carrdinelli won the pool with a 42-pounder, but Arnold McMaster who wasn't in the pool weighed a 46.5-pound striper at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina. Miss Belmar Princess is offering veterans a $40 fare that includes a rental rod on weekdays through Veteran's Day, Nov. 11. Conditions looked good for Raritan Bay stripers, but Capt. Rob Semkewyc of the Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands said there wasn't much bird life despite the relative lack of boat traffic. Semkewyc had to fish in N.Y. waters and released two slots caught there where they're not legal. He ended up getting into a shot of fish on the Jersey side that produced some keepers, slots and shorts plus a couple of bluefish. Sergio Radossi of the Hudson River Fisherman's Association fished live eels in the Hudson River on Sunday from Al White's boat along with Tony Di Modugno and Joe Spaccavento as they caught 18 bass up to 25 pounds. Capt. Vinnie Vetere has been covering a lot of ground with his Katfish from Great Kills, trolling TGT bunker spoons down to Elberon, and up as far as Flushing Bay. After locating bass, he fishes live bunkers that have produced bass up to 38 pounds. Leif Pettersen used his fly rod to release three stripers up to 31 inches at Deal on Saturday evening, but only hooked two 17-to-18-inch bass Sunday morning. Monday morning was a rare shutout. Surfcasters again found little to cast to the Bay Head area this morning as big stripers have been caught primarily to the south since Sunday.    Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park had about 30 bass weighed in Sunday after being caught mostly on poppers. That continued Monday, when surf pro Shell Caris weighed a 44.5-inch, 36.75-pounder taken on a popper. The Cock Robin from Point Pleasant summed up the weekend by reporting "awesome" bluefish and sea bass on Saturday, followed by "terrible" striped bass on Sunday. Dave Lilly of Hazlet got out Sunday afternoon to troll stretch plugs in the back of Raritan Bay for non-stop action that produced nine bass up to 26 pounds in two hours before the storm forced him in.
