There weren't many anglers on the scene, but those who ignored the forecast of wind and cold had a fine day on Raritan Bay. Capt. Rob Semkewyc said it was gorgeous by 10 a.m., and the birds stayed up all day as fares on his Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands caught lots of 28-to-34-inch keeper stripers plus 24-to-28-inch slots. Capt. Ron Santee had a charter on his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands with Al Bulzanoski's IBEW Local 456 group that did well with run-and-gun stripers, including a 24-pound pool winner. The ocean fishing didn't sound as good, though the sea conditions looked fine from shore. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported only a few stripers, but good bluefishing on Run-Off Hammer jigs. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported plenty of 12-to-13-pound blues, but only a few stripers. Surfcasting reports remained mostly negative -- with no sign of bait. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park heard of some bass on plugs in the dark, The HRFA contest was being contested. Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina, said it's still easy to catch the two-fish limit of winter flounder from the docks there. The Jersey Coast Anglers Association holds their Sportsperson of the Year dinner from 4-8 p.m. Sunday in  Crystal Point Yacht Club , Point Pleasant.
