With the west wind decreasing, striped bass fishing continued at a high pace. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant made their last Striper Marathon trip which produced lots of slot bass plus almost one keeper per man along with a few blues. Almost every party boat should be fishing on Wednesday. Surfcasters enjoyed good sport if they were at the right place at the right rime, which rarely seems to happen two days in a row at any location. I joined Jerry Lasko of Point Pleasant for a ride to Seaside Park in hope of finding another early blitz such as Lasko had there the previous morning. Not surprisingly, that didn't occur, and we ended up at Spring Lake where there was some good early action before the beach got too crowded. There were loads of peanut bunkers, with stripers  crashing into them at times. As usual, those using the snag & drop technique did best, but I managed to release two legal-sized bass that hit a large pencil popper that was far larger than the bait the stripers were chasing. Most of the bass appeared to be legal, but I didn't see anything particularly large.  The Jamaica from Brielle has delayed the sailing time of tonight's offshore sea bass trip to 1 a.m., with boarding at midnight. The regular departure for those trips is at 11 p.m. the night before Wednesdays Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Call 732 528-5014 for reservations. That boat also has a Thanksgiving striper trip from 6 a.m. to noon.  Bob Matthews got away from Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina on Monday long enough to enjoy some great local surfcasting. He was pleased to see very few of the stripers being caught taken off the beach. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park weighed-in lots of stripers and blues again though the surf bite wasn't "epic" as was the case Monday morning.
