4/3/17: We got out Sunday, one day is better than none, and it was a gorgeous day. A good size ground swell out of the east but as the day went on the swell smoothed out. Everyone was so eager to fish, you could feel the tension and excitement all around. After the horn on the first wreck you could hear a pin drop. Everyone looking out the corner of their eye for a swing or bite by a neighboring angler. Things were pretty quiet and then the first keeper was landed, and one more, and then we got the hell out of there. Second wreck was great. A very slow bite at first but it continued to get better. A lot of shorts to keep everyone on their guard, and a occasional keeper and also a few cod mixed in the catch.
The other wrecks were about the same. Some guys moved around a bit to try and find better action, few guys casted out to find better structure, and some of them succeeded. The pool winner was Wayne Smith of Willingboro, NJ with a nice 7-lb blackfish.
All in all it was a good trip. (I’ve seen a few spring start-ups where we caught zero!) The winter was mild and the bottom temp was 47 degrees, which is a good temp for this time of year. We will continue to sail on Saturdays and Sundays except for Easter weekend, we will be sailing Good Friday and Saturday but not on Easter Sunday. Check out the pictures on Facebook of the trip and hopefully we will see your face on there holding a nice fish! Sea you at sea!
