The weather looks like it's going to break right on Wednesday before returning to rain and wind on Thursday. As a result, most party boats should be sailing in the morning. Blackfish will be the target for most, including the Ocean Explorer and Big Mohawk from Belmar, while the Golden Eagle from that port will be looking for mackerel  -- with cod as an alternative. That weather should also be ideal for surfcasting plus those seeking stripers in Raritan and Barnegat bays. With water temperatures moving up, there may even be a shot at bluefish pretty soon. Capt. Russ Binns of Toms River told me that he's heard rumors of blues being spotted at Cape May already. It's not time for tuna yet, but the Canyon Runner from Point Pleasant warns that they're almost sold out for the first part of the season. There are only nine days available until then on the 60-foot Canyon Runner and eight days on the 48-footer.
