The 32nd Hooked On The Hudson will be run Saturday by the Hudson River Fisherman's Association at Ross Dock, Palisades Interstate Park. The free fishing contest runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bait is supplied, and kids can use the equipment provided to win prizes. There's also a kid's casting contest from 2 to 3 p.m. Many exhibits relating to the Hudson can be viewed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Capt. Lou Grazioso reports trollers continued to catch stripers today in Raritan Bay, though he didn't see any of the 40-inch bass that had been hitting the previous day. However, the bass did turn onto cast jigs again. Grazioso had Greg Kondak along this afternoon as they scored with Tsunami 5-and-6-inch shads in the afternoon, primarily on the start and end of the tide. Capt. Joe Massa had a hard time finding bunkers to net from his My Three Sons out of Morgan Marina on Friday, but had no trouble trolling stripers with Stretch 25 plugs. After he had enough of that, another attempt at netting bunkers produced enough for chunking. Massa marked some bass, and caught larger bass than had been trolled -- up to a 29-pound release. He said they hit heads, but just played with them. It was necessary to have the rod in hand and strike at just the right time. Though deep diving plugs have been working best for trollers, Mark Roy of Warren managed to catch three bass Monday by trolling the Mo-Jo lures that were so successful last fall from his Release Me out of Raritan Marina in Hazlet. Betty & Nick's Tackle in Seaside Park got an early morning report from Frank Romano of a steady pick of big blues on bunker chunks in the Island Beach State Park surf. Another angler bought some of the new Kettle Creek paddle tails and fished the surf across the street to catch a 27-inch striper. Three days of light east winds have resulted in a clean whitewater surf.
