Yellowfin tuna fishing has turned on again in the canyons. The Canyon Runner from Point Pleasant had the Vince Huffnagel party out this week as 27 big yellowfins were boated in just three hours -- making it 30 for the trip plus a huge wahoo. I had hoped to have the JCAA Fluke Tournament results in time for this blog, but will post them when they become available tomorrow. At Belmar, the Golden Eagle reported lots of action with chub mackerel plus sea bass, ling, fluke and blues. The Ocean Explorer did well with fluke as some limits were caught and the pool was around 6 pounds. The big pool is up to $3350. Capt. Stan Zagleski said the south wind started blowing hard too soon, and fluking wasn't as good as it had been as it was mostly shorts and sea bass on Elaine B II from Bahrs in Highlands. Capt. John Kolias worked some sticky bottom with his Reel Fun from Twin Lights in Highlands this week and had good fluking for the James Mc Connell party -- topped by a 7.8-pounder. Fishing Report 8/3/17 7.8 lb Fluke...nice fish!
