1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

The best report today came from the Golden Eagle out of Belmar which reported a "super" day of fishing for bonito, little tunny and chub mackerel -- along with a 20-to-25-pound yellowfin tuna boated and another lost. They expect weather to improve during the day, and plan to sail Sunday. However, many others (including the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands) will not sail. Check with your skipper before coming down.   Joe Melillo, at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant, reports there are big blues and some stripers in the canal for those casting jigs. John Mazzeo of South Plainfield fished live mullet in Manasquan Inlet from 5:30 to 9 a.m., and limited with two 19-inch fluke plus a 21-incher. Hopefully, those mullet will move out into the ocean after Sunday's east winds to get the fall surf striper run started early. I just came from a gathering at my nephew's house in Bay Head where he had the fireplace going just two days after August. Today felt like an Ice Age was coming! Capt. Stan Zagleski reported from his Elaine B II out of Bahrs in Highlands as follows: Breezy Saturday September 2, 2017   We had a gusty easterly breeze right off the bat this morning which kept fishing the ocean off of the table.  We went a different direction and our group of Saturday flukers went to work.  We managed a  few keepers and some shorts on most drifts and ended the day with limits and a majority of the folks having fish to take home for dinner.  Gulps and Spros worked best for the keepers today.  Tom Hollywood Sr., Staten Island, NY, and Dave Brink, Middletown, NJ, both had limits with Dave also taking another pool.  Only THREE days left in the fluke season.  The weather sounds great for both Monday and Tuesday!!
