1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

There were only a couple of reports today, but both were good ones from Belmar. The Golden Eagle had limits of blues plus little tunny and some bonito-- along with a Spanish mackerel. All of the action was on Run-Off Hammer jigs. There was no mention of the bluefish sizes, so I assume they were the smaller choppers. The Ocean Explorer had another fine day with porgies plus some blackfish and a few triggerfish and blowfish. There hadn't been a hit for anyone casting into Shark River yesterday morning, but Vinnie D'Anton of Wall managed two small stripers this morning on his Chug Bug, while Jim Lauro of Spring Lake made the most of his only hit on a popper by landing a 28-inch bluefish. At Seaside Park, John Bushell of Betty & Nick's Tackle said the surf is calming and clearing up just in time for the weekend. Grumpy's Tackle noted that docks in the bay are producing big numbers of crabs. I fished sandworms in Point Pleasant Canal, but it's been difficult to get past the baby sea bass that cover the bottom there in order to catch blackfish or stripers. Big blues are in the canal, as Ray Sorriente can attest to after watching one chop off a blackfish he was reeling in right behind the head a couple of days ago. It was Tim Doolan who boated a striper in the Hudson River on Wednesday. One "o" was lost in his name in yesterday's blog.
