The Golden Eagle from Belmar had a great first hour of jigging with Run-Off Hammer jigs this morning as jumbo blues up to 22 pounds were boated Most were in the 15-ro-20-pound class, but after that there was a long pause before some little tunny were hooked. This is a great opportunity for subscribers to The Fisherman magazine as the leading bluefish in their coastal Dream Boat Fishing Contest is "only" 17.83 pounds. Legitimate 20-pound bluefish are rare, though there was a good showing of them off North Jersey a couple of years ago. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar reported lots of porgies once again along with a few blackfish. The Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands had similar fishing despite a nasty sea early with a hard outgoing tide against an east wind. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported lots of action Monday with blues, bonito and little tunny. They had a Mud Hole tuna trip today. Vinny D'Anton of Wall didn't spot any mullet in a rough Spring Lake surf this morning, but when some small bait showed he cast his Chug Bug and released a 26-inch striper. Frank Manzi hooked a bigger bass on the surface, but it got off.  I tried the Sea Girt surf with a popper, but didn't do a thing. It was rough in the east wind, but fishable. A move to Point Pleasant Canal on the slack produced 10 short tog up to 14 inches from among the little sea bass on sandworms. Bob Correll of Bay Head fished his local surf yesterday evening and caught lots of snappers on metal. Pete Connell of Avon trolled for tuna on Monday with his new 30-foot Robalo from Belmar, but never got a hit on small lures-- though he saw medium or larger tuna jumping both at Shark River Reef and in Little Italy. The latest report from Matt  at Jim's Tackle in Cape May follows: "We are starting to see more redfish showing up in the surf. A lot of these fish were caught by tog fisherman on green or Asian crabs although they have been taking lures as well. There are still plenty of small blues in the surf and in the backwaters and some bigger blues being reported from the upper Delaware Bay. There is plenty of action with blackfish on local rock piles and the sea wall in North Wildwood. Stripers around are still mostly schoolies, and there are mullet moving out of the backwaters, but still mostly just small schools.With the wind being what it was last week, not many boats ventured offshore, but we did have reports from a few guys. Capt Clint and the crew on the charter boat "Common Sense" boated the biggest wahoo I've ever weighed. The fish tipped the scales at 106 lbs. They also caught 20 dolphin and a yellowfin. They were fishing along the 30 Fathom line inside the Baltimore Canyon.The party boats have been targeting a mixed bag of fish mostly blues, small weakfish, and some tog and triggerfish. Check with the boat captains as to their schedules before you make the trip down. This time of the year they sometimes  can't get enough people to go"
