1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

There were few reports on a beautiful day at the Shore, though Jerry Lasko reported that the surf which had calmed yesterday was rough again. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar reported fine porgy fishing and some blackfish despite a large ground swell. I cast a 6-inch white Tsunami Shad into a roaring incoming tide at Point Pleasant Canal around dawn without a touch until there was a surface explosion 20 feet from me at the end of a cast. The fish must have been coming toward me because I never felt the hit, but was hooked up to what turned out to be a fat 34 1/2-inch bluefish that didn't cut my lure and was quickly released. As the current slowed, I switched to casting sandworms on light spinning for a good blackfish bite that produced releases of 10 short tog up to 14 1/2 inches from among numerous very small sea bass.
