There was a big change in the Hudson River striper bite on Sunday after Saturday's hot eeling. The Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands reported that it seemed as if the tide would never start running, and when it did they only picked a few stripers and blues. As a result, that boat will be holding off on starting daily trips for the next couple of days as a strong west wind kicks in. There are still giant bluefish offshore. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported lots of blues up to 23 pounds on bait during their Saturday night trip The Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands had good porgy fishing over the weekend despite a rough sea especially on Saturday. Conditions were better Sundy morning, but they won't be sailing the next two days due to strong west winds. .Those west winds should finally calm the surf for surfcasters. At Seaside Park, Grumoy's Tackle reported better conditions and heard of a few big blues in the surf as well as at the dock in town. Betty & Nick's noted that there is a problem getting bunker, clams, and even salted clams right now.
