1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

While we're still waiting for reports of the first purple-tinted migratory striped bass, there are plenty of Hudson River stock stripers waiting for eels and bunkers on their home grounds.  I joined Capt. Joe Massa om his My Three Sons from Morgan Marina as we fished  live eels at the rough bottom spot where we had been doing well last week, but the bite was slow there. Fortunately for me, my only good hit there provided a powerful battle and turned out to weigh 33 1/2 pounds on Massa's Mustad scale. Massa broke the ice a few drifts later with a 36-inch release. Then Massa ran upriver where he marked fish in lots of bait. It was all bass for us at first even though we needed 16 ounces to get to bottom in the roaring current. Big blues started to take over, and we went  through two dozen eels before running back to the bay in order to finish up with a shot at blackfish. The Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands had a good day as per his following report SEA HUNTER 10-14 REPORT ITS STRIPER TIME !!!!!!!!!!! OK all you internet fishermen waiting for the first good Striper report. We caught them today! All nice fish 30 inches and bigger with some big Blues mixed in.We will start fishing daily now. That is every day, seven days a week for the Stripers. See you soon, Capt. Rob There was also good news from offshore as the Golden Eagle from Belmar got into lots of big blues to over 20 pounds. It was mostly on bait, but some were also taken on Run-Off Hammer jigs. The Golden Eagle is making their last canyon trip, a 24-hour sailing that departs at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Reservations are still being accepted.
