Today's east wind kept the surf rough and dirty -- and also made for uncomfortable fishing in the ocean. Atlantic Highlands party boats started on the slack, and had to move into rougher waters to find stripers that didn't always cooperate. The Sea Hunter had a 16-pound pool fish, but had to move around a lot to pick at the bass. The Fishermen bailed out with an afternoon bite in the rough waters as only jigs did the job since the current was too strong for shads. The Golden Eagle from Belmar did well with jumbo blues again both Saturday night and today despite the nasty ocean. They will switch to stripers for Monday's trip. Bob Matthews of Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina says winter flounder fishing from the docks there has been very good with two-fish limits of up to 18-inch flounder being common on both worms and clam. At Seaside Park, Betty & Nick's Tackle weighed in a 36-inch, 17-pound striper caught on clam this morning by Tom Sacca of Vineland. Mark Roy of Warren is taking a break in Florida, and was committed to catching his first bonefish. He did that and more yesterday when he and Mark Levine of Ft. Lauderdale combined for seven bonefish releases in Biscayne Bay on a charter with Capt. Joe Gonzalez.
