After red hot striper jigging on every trip this week, Capt. Rob Semkewyc finally had to settle for a more normal pick today on his Sea Hunter from, Atlantic Highlands. There wasn't much bird action, and the bass had to be jigged on readings, Even then they appeared to be disinterested in the lures. With fog, wind and rain developing on Saturday, the Sea Hunter will wait until Sunday for the next trip. Capt. Rob also hopes to get out the day after Christmas. Capt. Stan Zagleski reported a decent pick of tog during Thursday's trip with his Elaine B II from Bahrs in Highlands. The high hook had four tog, and green crabs were just as effective as whiteleggers. The Angler from Atlantic Highlands had to pass by bunkers being attacked by stripers on Thursday in order to fish offshore for tog -- beyond the three mile limit. Lines were running to the bow, but an angler fishing from the pulpit caught five keeper tog and 12 shorts on the first drop. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar reports blackfish have been fussy in calm waters, and long leaders work best. The Mimi VI from Point Pleasant, will be sailing open at 7:30 from Tuesday through Thursday next week as well as that Saturday through the following Friday. Call 732 370-8019 for details.
