The Jamaica from Brielle got in their last shot at jumbo porgies during Saturday's far offshore wreck trip as  that season closes on March 1. Maryland anglers took the pools with pollock as Diana Haynes of Laurel boated a 17-pounder and Jarrod Moore from Baltimore had a 12-pounder. The hi-hook caught 30 porgies plus two ling and four pollock.  Next Saturday's trip will leave at 1 a.m. for cod, pollock and hake. Call 732 528-5014 for reservations.  The Ocean Explorer from Belmar will be fishing or blackfish and cod much closer to shore in the morning. Vinny D'Anton of Wall reports shore fishing in the Sarasota area of Florida's west coast has been good. His grandson Brandon was down recently and got into a good bite of Spanish mackerel by casting lures as those speedsters up to 28 inches turned on as the water temperature got up to 76 degrees. Vinny had good action on Mirr-O-Lures  and the Storm Sand Eel this morning with spotted sea trout up to a 23-incher and added a snook. Richard Gross of Point Pleasant reported increasing water temperatures helped up in Clearwater recently as he put his grandson Finn (9) into  grouper and hogfish plus lots of sea bass and snappers. King mackerel just started running in that area, but are mostly in the 5-to-7-pound class.
