After the hot striper bite on bunker schools south of Manasquan Inlet on Tuesday, today's results were mixed. The Cock Robin from Point Pleasant reported yesterday's jigging in those bunker schools was poor, and it was necessary to switch to live bait for action -- though the Queen Mary was able to put a catch of stripers together on the last stop. Bob Correll of Bay Head joined Mike Heaney of Allendale on his 32-foot Sea Vee, Four Reel, from Crystal Point in Point Pleasant along with Joe Holl and Joe Farrell from Ramsey as they worked bunker schools Tuesday morning from Bay Head to Seaside and caught 11 bass averaging 18 pounds and up to a 41-incher. All were released except for two that were gut-hooked.  Capt. Sal Cursi fished bunkers in Raritan Bay this morning for a limit of bass up to a 25-pounder on Shananagans from Morgan Marina. Capt. Dave De Gennaro trolled the Seaside area today with his Hi-Flier and boated a 16-pound bass while losing a smaller one. Capt. Rob Semkewyc has been doing well with blues and short bass on his Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands . It looked like big bass were moving in Monday off the Highlands Bridge when Paul Alesi of Point Pleasant boated a 29-pounder. Yet, Tuesday there wasn't much of anything before fishing improved for big blues and short bass plus a few keepers in today's fog with no boat traffic. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported a good mix of short and keeper stripers today plus big blues. Run-Off gold crocs and poppers worked best. Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina, had surf reports of bass at night from Seaside to Monmouth Beach.. They are mostly shorts up to the teens, and are hitting SP Minnows, darters, Bombers and teasers. Winter flounder fishing is hot in Shark River, with many 16-to-20-inch fish in the mix. Adan Waskis of Port Reading boated an 11 1/2-pound blackfish earlier in the week, and added a 14 1/2-pound tog the next day. Joe Melillo, of Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant, caught a short bass on metal in the Bay Head surf on Tuesday and lost another. I tried there this morning without a hit in a larger swell. Vinnie D'Anton of Shark River Hills fished the Sea Bright surf and had small schools of peanut bunkers pass by every so often. When that occurred, he cast an SP Minnow to catch two small bass and two big blues.
