1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

The northeast wind plus rain put a big crimp in fishing plans today. There were no boat reports, and few anglers fished the surf under conditions that would be good for stripers next month. The very small blues that were abundant south of Manasquan Inlet in calm seas on Friday weren't much of an attraction under the circumstances even if they could be caught. Betty & Nick's Tackle in Seaside Park did have a Friday afternoon report of big blues at Top O' The Mast.  Grumpy's Tackle in that town noted that in addition to the small blues in the surf there are a few stripers being caught at night on SP Minnows. I diverted my trip to the surf this morning as the wind and rain picked up and instead fished Point Pleasant Canal where I put some old sand worms to good use despite a moving current to release blackfish of 13 1/2 and 16 inches on one-handed spinning tackle before the rain forced me to quit while I was ahead. The forecast for Sunday still includes NE winds with gusts to 20 mph before shifting to southeast at night. At least we may not have the rain to deal with.
