The wind forecast for Tuesday was pretty bad, with small craft warnings posted for south winds gusting to over 25 mph. It actually didn't turn out that bad, though the middle of Raritan Bay was a bit uncomfortable due to a large south swell. Chuck Many of Annandale was able to work his summer striper spots, and found bass on them -- though the bite wasn't good. Nellie Greer of Bethlehem. Pa. and I joined Many on his Ty Man from Gateway Marina in Highlands as we worked hard with live bunkers and chunks to release six stripers, four of which were shorts. Many briefly fished sand worms near Ambrose and quickly released two small fluke. We're still working on local stripers, as the water temperature in the bay is still very high at 66 degrees -- and must drop considerably before the migratory run gets started. Most party boats stayed in port due to the forecast, and Wednesday doesn't look much better. There may even be thunderstorms early in the morning. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park reported small blues continued to hit well in the local surf on mullet.
