The Cock Robin from Point Pleasant reports big bluefish hit on both jigs and bait for the second straight day, and anglers on Monday's trip caught all they wanted. Striped bass fishing was a lot tougher for Chuck Many of Annandale on his Ty Man from Gateway Marina in Highlands. After netting peanut bunkers, Manny took a shot down the beach for the first time in a couple of months. Conditions were fine, but there were no striper readings -- and the only birds were sitting on schools of tiny rainfish.We both caught a small blue on metal cast to them, and I also jigged small sea bass that hit a Tsunami Slimwave metal almost as long as they were. Many ran back to Raritan Bay where we marked bass that didn't hit well. He released one in the teens on a peanut bunker and I lost one before we tried chunking with old bait that produced only small dogfish. After running back to Highlands to pick up Matt Calabria of Hazlet at 4, we went back out as Calabria castnetted a load of  adult bunker. Those were drifted near Ambrose where Calabria and I each released a bass in the teens. However several other hits were missed. The total of three releases was a far cry from the 23 up to 41 inches that Many and I released after chunking them last Tuesday. The water temperature remains high at 69 degrees, but another NE wind is on its way as we await the first signs of a fall run.
