Capt. Dave Riback of the Queen Mary from Point Pleasant said bonito fishing started slowly today, but then got hot as the high hook caught over 20. The most effective lure was the Tsunami 5-inch Split-Tail Minnow.  Capt. Joe Bogan reported Saturday's fluking on Jamaica II from Brielle was very good as he worked wrecks and rough bottoms that produced many limits under ideal drifting conditions. The red hot surf fluke bite continued today in Seaside Park and Island Beach State Park as both Grumpy's and Betty & Nick's reported lots of keepers being hooked on bucktails tipped with 4-inch Gulp plus a teaser above the jig with another Gulp. John Bushell also noted that the hot color was white. Joe Daley e-mailed me about a similar hot fluke bite in the Sea Bright surf, but those flatties were in the 10-to-14-inch class. I tried the Sea Girt surf again as the north wind was modest and conditions perfect -- though I never got a hit on a swimmer or popper. Snappers destroyed my Gulps as fast as I could cast them when I made the switch, and were so hungry that I even hooked them (plus a small fluke) on the nubs left after the tails were bitten off.   Unfortunately, there are small craft warnings posted for the next two days with northeast winds up to 30 mph.
