Anglers fishing the surf at Island Beach State Park are enjoying the special zone created by the state that allows them to keep two fluke at a minimum of 16 inches. However, fluking was so good today that some anglers didn't need that help. In Seaside Park, Betty & Nick's Tackle had a video of Jon Velez with fluke of 4 1/4 and 5 pounds -- and he said he caught them among 30 fluke in the surf.   Grumpy's Tackle weighed their largest surf fluke so far -- a 7.75-pounder by Mike Jasinski -- who caught it on a Deadly Dick. They heard of anglers catching 20 to 30 fluke this morning. I fished Sea Girt again in beautiful waters that looked fishy, though I didn't raise a thing to my popper. There were 10 anglers down there at daylight, and one told me he'd caught a suicidal small striper on a plug in the wash.  Even fluking was tough, though I managed to release a 17-incher on Gulp just before leaving. Feank Huza checked out yesterday's report about little tunny being caught in the Sandy Hook surf. He went down there late Friday afternoon, and caught only a 2-pound blue -- though he did see a tunny jump 125 yards off the beach. He was back at Lot B this morning and only caught a 6-inch snapper -- though he spotted mullet in the surf moving to the south. Bait fishermen were catching small smooth dogfish. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported good jigging for 2-to-3-pound blues plus a few up to 4 pounds -- along with some bonito. Unfortunately, our run of good weather may be coming to an end as north, and then northeast, winds are forecast from Sunday into mid-week.
