Capt. Dave Riback had a story to tell about this afternoon's bluefishing on his Queen Mary from Point Pleasant as a blue marlin swam through the chum slick. In addition to small blues, there was very good bonito fishing. Mark Vicaro caught 18 bonito. Capt. Stan Zagleski said he had good fluke drifting conditions most of the day as some fares had multiple keepers on Elaine B II from Highlands. John Porada of Pompton Lakes had three fluke up to the pool-winning 8 5/16 pounds. The Golden Eagle from Belmar had some 10-to-15-pound blues on bait, but there were tough conditions with no wind and drift. The chum went straight down, and successful anglers flipped their baits away from the boat. Capt. Dave De Gennaro has been grass shrimp chumming for some 3-to-4-pound weakfish in Barnegat Bay with his Hi-Flier from Barnegat. They're mixed in with fluke, dogfish, sea robins, and even small bar jacks.  Tony Arcabascio of Bayville said the blowfish may finally be building up in the bay as a friend chummed 25 plus kingfish one day this week. Betty & Nick's in Seaside Park reported lots of fluke being caught in the surf. Frank Stone and a friend caught seven keepers up to 3 pounds out of 17 landed. A school of bunkers being hit by bluefish was reported 200 to 300 yards offshore of Area 18 in the park around noon. Allen Riley of South Plainfield got a report from Jimmy Morenz at Julian's Tackle in Atlantic Highlands that blues were caught in the Sandy Hook surf this morning -- along with little tunny at the first parking lot. I fished Sea Girt again with nothing but a snapper on the teaser even though the water was clear and conditions perfect. Bob Correll of Bay Head fished his local surf and said the weed wasn't bad. He jumped a small bluefish.
