1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

The effects of the big swell have disappeared, and fluking in the ocean has bounced back. Capt. Joe Bogan said shorts dominated during the week on his Jamaica II from Brielle, but there were lots of larger fiish and some limits over the weekend as he concentrated on fishing around wrecks. Jigging with a teaser hook armed with a Gulp Swimmimg Mullet four to five inches above the jig has been most effective. Steve Talevi of Trenton had a limit to 7 pounds, and Dave Melson of Princeton limited to 7 1/2 pounds. Capt. Stan Zagleski also did well in the ocean with Elaine B. from Highlands. Young Lee of Palisades Park took the pool with an 8.9-pound fluke over a 7 1/2-pounder by Ronnie Neila from Old Bridge. Dave Lilly of Hazlet completed a very successful fluke tournament season even though the 8.95-pound fluke he boated Saturday was second in a Staten Island weekend contest to a 9.05-pound fluke. Lilly fished in the ocean today with Charlie Parker on his Regulator out of Bahrs in Highlands to catch several 6-pounders -- but not the big one he wanted. There were some very good fluke reports from the surf on Saturday, but this morning's southwest wind seemed to slow the surf action. I got one small fluke on a Tsunami Slimwave metal before hooking a double of a hickory shad on the teaser and a small blue on the metal -- but only one other shad was added during a very brief "bite" at Bay Head. Unfortunately, it appears we have more of that wind to deal with.
