The big bluefish come and go, but the Golden Eagle from Belmar reported a good early bite on bait that produced catches of 12-to-18-pound choppers. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant fished for the pee-wee blues, but it was more mackerel than blues today. Capt. Dave Riback is going to concentrate on bonito Thursday. I gave the Bay Head surf a quick try this morning, and caught a hickory shad on a teaser on my first cast after dawn. That shad hit at the drop-off, and I got one other hit there. Normally that would lead to lots of hits from those fish, but it went dead. After walking to the south with no results, I returned to release one more shad and missed two hits on another cast before leaving.  There hasn't been much news from the MidAtlantic Tournament so far, but a potential big money fish was weighed -- a 65-pound white marlin on Irish Twin that is second to the leading 68-pounder by Canyon Lady. I'll have the day's final results later tonight.
