The Jamaica from Brielle got into big blues up to a 16-pounder on Friday, and also caught them Friday night -- but they couldn't be located today as the boat settled for small blues. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant reported plenty of those pee-wee blues plus mackerel and some bonito. One angler had his 15-bluefish limit and released another 30. Capt. Dave De Gennaro ran 125 miles from Barnegat Inlet with his Hi-Flier from Barnegat, but never had a tuna strike. He picked a couple of dolphin off a pot in the Glory Hole, but there was no afternoon bonito bite at Barnegat Ridge -- which has been consistent in the morning. De Gennaro only heard of one bluefin caught in the fleet all day. He has been doing well this week with 2-to-4-pound weakfish on grass shrimp in Barnegat Bay with ultra-light tackle. It was an off-day in Raritan Bay for stripers as Chuck Many of Annandale made a rare short Saturday morning trip with his Ty Man from Gateway Marina in Highlands which turned out to be the toughest of the year. Matt Calabria and I were along trying to duplicate the 25 stripers (mostly shorts, but up to 35 inches) we released Wednesday. My son, Mike, was also with us and ended up being high hook with three short bass on sandworms. I released one about 15 pounds on a live bunker and lost a couple -- but the bass just didn't seem interested even when we marked them. There was a wind against tide situation, but it didn't impact our drift too much. Anchoring to chunk only resulted in big dogfish.
