Capt. Lou Grazioso of Wall fished offshore today with Bob Chervanak on his Lady Dorado from Waretown and reported hot trolling action with surfacing school bluefin tuna on balao and Canyon Runner spreader bars. Those bluefins were all "unders", but they also boated large dolphin. It wasn't anything like it had been, but Gene Graman of Middletown managed a decent catch of stripers once again in Raritan Bay with his That's It from Highlands. Joe Greco (formerly of Edison),up from Fort Myers, Fl., and I joined him as we picked 13 bass in the teens, though a couple of releases may have made 20 pounds.  During our last trip, Greco couldn't get a bass hit while hooking one smooth dogfish after another, but this time he was high hook on bass while not forgetting his dogfish skills as he caught the only three we hooked. I managed to hook a 17-inch fluke on a big bunker chunk with an 8/0 circle hook. Tank Matraxia and Marty Gras from Lyndhurst got into bigger fluke offshore of Sandy Hook with Capt. Kevin Cole from Brown's in Keyport. Along with two other customers, the boat's total was 17 keepers, topped by a 6 9/16-pounder by Cole. Matraxia had four keepers up to 5 1/2 pounds, but lost the fish of the day when a fluke of about 8 pounds did a back flip when netted by Cole -- jumping out of the net and spitting the jig.  Some sea bass, a ling and a small blue were also caught, and Matrazia tagged 19 fluke. Surprisingly, there were no dogfish, skates or sea robins.  Though 67 boats sailed today in the White Marlin Open at Ocean City, Md., none were at the scales early. I'll do another blog later tonight on the catches there.
