Preliminary information indicates that a 10.35-pound doormat won the Raritan Bay Anglers Charity Fluke Tournament contested today out of Harborside Marina in Perth Amboy. Dave Lilly of Hazlet called in that news after he took second with Charlie Parker of Oceanport on his Regulator along with Kevin Mayerhoff. They entered a 9.32-pound fluke to edge others of 9.11 and 8.29 pounds. I'm awaiting the official results, and will post them when received. Capt. Stan Zagleski said he finally got good drifting conditions in Raritan Bay with his Elaine B. II from Bahrs in Highlands. That was good for both keeper fluke and shorts. Mike Scher of Cranford had a limit, and Richard DeMarco from Toms River took the pool with a 5 3/4-pounder. My son Mike joined Chris DeGennaro of Wall and his children on his Kaylee Marie from Manasquan to drift for fluke at Sea Girt Reef where they ended up with 10 keepers up to 22 inches. Striped bass continued to cooperate in Raritan Bay. I joined Gene Graman of Middletown on his That's It from Twin Lights Marina in Highlands along with Jerry McMenamy of Holmdel as we chunked 14 which were all legal-sized bass in the teens and twenties. Scott Leadbeater of Haddon Heights was anchored nearby with his father and son Rich as they hooked nine large stripers from their Aquasport out of Atlantic Highlands. There was good news in the ocean as the Golden Eagle from Belmar had good jigging for small blues plus 15 to 20 bonito -- and the first little tunny I've heard of this summer. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant also jigged limits of pee-wee blues while adding some bonito. At Seaside Park, Grumpy's Tackle reports good fluke fishing in the surf. John Walters landed a 23-inch, 4-pounder Friday on Gulp. Some kingfish have made an appearance in the surf, and water temperatures are finally seasonable.  Capt. Jim McFarland not only put the Chris Docs party from Clifton into the cod, haddock, pollock, whiting, redfish and cusk they expected, but also mackerel that were so thick Friday on Stellwagen Bank they could hardly get through them. Two giant tuna over 600 pounds were also caught there on Friday.
