1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

For the second day in a row, the Golden Eagle from Belmar reported some blues on jigs after a long period with virtually none. Those jigged today were in the 5-to-10-pound class. Capt. Stan Zagleski once again reported some quality fluke on his Elaine B II from Bahrs in Highlands despite the south wind. There was a tie for the pool at 4 7/16 pounds between Tom Hollywood Sr, of Staten Island and Kevin Kenney from Hazlet. Capt. Bobby Bogan said the south wind also hurt his fluking the last two days on his Gambler out of Point Pleasant. That fishing has been very dependent on conditions. The Thursday 7 p.m. sailing has been good for ling plus an occasional cod or flounder -- but squid have been slow so far. Capt. Butch Egerter is filling the three sea bass per man limit currently allowed along with ling and some flounders on his Dauntless from Point Pleasant. There was less seaweed this morning when I surfcast at Point Pleasant. I was able to work a popper without much of a problem even though there was no sign of fish. On the other hand, Mickey Sweeney of Howell fished at Normandy Beach, which had been clear, and made only one cast with a bait rig. He soon had so much weed on his line that it was carried down the beach like a ray had been hooked. It took him 20 minutes just to get all the weed off his line and rig.
