Despite a "doom and gloom" forecast, Capt. Stan Zagleski once again came up with a good day of fluking on his Elaine B. II from Bahrs in Highlands. There was even less east wind than yesterday. Fishing was best in the morning, before the tide changed. Tony Salomone of Woodbridge won the pool with a 5 1/4-pound fluke, to edge out a 5 1/16-pounder by by Mike Terefenko of Middletown.
Joe Melillo, at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant, said he tried casting for blues in Manasquan River early in the morning, but was driven off by the cool east wind. Blues have also been in the surf and Point Pleasant Canal.
Capt. Jim McFarland, of Big Mac from Green Harbor, Ma. only had to run two miles to put Scott Testa's party from Forked River into over 40 fat winter flounder. Stellwagen Bamk is loaded with whales and sand eels. Combination tuna and groundfish trips begin after the moon tides.
