1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

I didn't get back home Tuesday until 10 p.m. after fishing a Chuck Many Marathon on Ty Man, and the marine weather forecast at that time for Wednesday morning was for light east winds. Just a few hours later it was howling along the Shore! Crazy Alberto Knie was up here with a full camera crew from Florida to do a pilot of his new Tactical Anglers TV show, and was set to fish with me and Capt. Hans Kaspersetz on Sheri Berri from Baker's Marina on the Bay in Highlands. After yesterday's fine striper fishing in Raritan Bay, especially with poppers, it looked as if they might get the action they needed -- until the totally unpredicted east wind started howling. Small craft warnings were posted long after the wind came up, and it's hard to understand how NOAA Weather could ave been unaware of what was actually happening for so long.  Fortunately, it occurred early enough that boaters had to be aware of the dangerous seas before heading offshore. The crew got wet just shooting some extreme surfcasting at Seven Presidents Park in Long Branch, where it was all we could do just to stand up against a 30 mph east wind.  A brief attempt at chunking in Shrewsbury River didn't produce any action before the crew had to come in to film interviews -- just as the wind was moderating enough that we might have been able to search for those massive bunker schools in the bay before Knie had to move on to Montauk for another segment tomorrow. There were few reports today, but Capt. Stan Zagleski actually had a good one from his Elaine B II out of Bahrs in Highlands. He found a relatively calm area for fluking that produced some large keepers. Indeed, he said most of the keepers were in the 4-to-6-pound class. Jack Deckert of Blairstown won the pool with a 6.13-pounder, and also bagged a 5.12-pound fluke. The Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands didn't get out, and it appears Friday will be the last time Capt. Rob Semkewyc will be striper fishing until the fall as he switches to half-day fluke fishing on the weekend.
