Chuck Many of Annandale was suffering from striper fishing withdrawal for the last two weeks while cheering his daughter Isabella on to the State Group 4 softball championship with North Hunterdon, but he made up for that with a Marathon Tuesday trip on his Ty Man out of Gateway Marina in Highlands. Danny Pepe of Annandale came along to try to break his personal striper record of 38 inches. Many, the former Little League coach  of that Kutztown State student, assured him there would be no problem breaking that record. Sure enough, Pepe hooked up on a live bunker during the first drift in the mouth of Raritan Bay and soon was jumping for joy as Many weighed his bass at 32 pounds. In a rarity for the all-release Ty Man, Pepe was allowed to bring home his trophy. Nellie Greer of Bethlehem, Pa., local pro Matt Calabria, and I joined with Pepe in ending up with 21 bass for the day -- all released except for that first one.   Schools of bunker were spotted in the bay during mid-morning, and I was able to cast a Tactical Anglers Sea Pencil when bass erupted on the bunker schools.  After first catching a big blue, I then added releases of a bass in the 20-25-pound class, and another of 28 pounds that provided a spectacular strike -- while the others were catching bass and blues on bunkers. Capt. Stan Zagleski reports fluking was slower today in spots where he had done well Monday. Yet, he managed to find a flurry in deep water at the end as almost all had something to take home. Roger Soloman of Elmwood Park won the pool with a 4-pounder.   It was a tough day for bluefishing in the ocean. The Golden Eagle from Belmar tried both in bunker schools inshore and out to the reefs and Mud Hole without much success -- though a few keeper and short cod were caught.
