Capt. Howard Bogan switched last weekend's offshore wrecks cod trip from1 a.m. Saturday to the same time Sunday in order to get fishable weather, and that decision paid off in a better pick of cod and pollock plus some ling. Antonio Celis of Freehold boated a 26-pound cod plus two more cod and a pollock. Randy Trembley from Freehold totaled five cod and three pollock, while Max Peters of Trenton and Ignacio Castillo from Woodside, N.Y. each had four cod and a pollock. This weekend's schedule reverts to the 1 a.m. offshore trip on Saturday, and a 4 a.m. mid-range wreck sailing on Sunday.The Ocean Explorer from Belmar took advantage of calm weather on Monday to pick a few ling and small cod from local deep water wrecks. A keeper cod and pollock were boated.
Tagged Fish from Highlands gave the cold waters a try on Sunday to pick a cod plus some shorts, ling and a blackfish.
There has been some action for inshore anglers with white perch in Toms River and Great Bay.
