We had better fishing after the last couple of tough days on the fluke grounds. Almost no drift this morning but the guys and gals managed to pick away at a mix of shorts and nice keepers until the bite in the area finally died late morning. Once the afternoon breeze kicked up it gave us a nice drift in a different area to finish the day where we had some shorts and a few more very NICE keepers. Spros and gulps have had an edge over natural baits when there is no current and natural baits have been doing just as well with a drift. Frank Lavelle, Jersey City, NJ, had several keepers today including a 6 pound 14 ounce fish which was caught in the first couple of minutes this morning and led the pool most of the day. Frank's wife Anne celebrated her birthday with us today and got a very nice present when she caught her largest fluke ever--a 7 pound 4 ounce fish--on the last drift of the day to take the pool. Frank could not have been more pleased! Happy birthday Anne! John Vanderstad, Pompton Lakes, NJ, led the way with four nice fish. A few of the guys had three each, etc.. See you in the morning.
