4/27/15: The weekend was a big improvement from last week. A little chilly but we gained three degrees on the bottom, 43 degrees on Saturday. Quite a few short blackfish and a nice pick of keeper cod. There were also a few keeper blackfish. Pool winner was Jeff Bauer of Manahawkin, NJ, with a nice 7-lb cod. On Sunday we could only get a reading of 40 degrees on the bottom, but we picked away at the cod, mostly all short, and the blackfish action was a little better. In fact, it was great for Dennis Haney of Lumberton NJ, who won the pool with a nice 6-lb blackfish.

Now that the fish just started biting, the Fisheries Dept. says OK, that's enough, shut down. What! It just started! So there you have it. Now we will wait until the opening of sea bass season, which is May 26. By the way, this weekend we caught and released 8 nice keeper-size sea bass. Instead of sitting at the dock Memorial weekend, the Carolyn Ann III will be fishing for stripers and blues, just Sat and Sun. Monday we'll stay at the dock and get ready for sea bass, and Tuesday we start every day. Hope to sea you then!
