4/13/15: We finally got out to fish on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was a little sporty, with a southeasterly swell and a west wind, on the offshore wrecks, and a northernly current on the inshore wrecks. But very fishable and the guys on board fished hard. A lot of anglers said the same thing, you can feel bites but they were very soft. Sounds like lockjaw to me! Saturday we caught a few short cod and a keeper cod and about a half a dozen short blackfish. The hero on that trip was Andy Kubala of Lancaster, PA, who took the money with a 4.5-lb cod. A repeat on Sunday but a much prettier day. The deeper wrecks were 41 degrees on the bottom and the inshore wrecks were 39 degrees. This winter and runoff, really chilled the ocean temps. But Anthony Chiliberti of Pine Hill, NJ won the pool with a 4-lb cod.
I guess we will have to be patient. The water temp will eventually rise and the fish will start moving and feed. We will be sailing just Saturdays and Sundays through April. There will be a shutdown period for us during the month of May. As soon as sea bass season opens, on May 27 we will be sailing everyday. Enjoy the warmer weather and hopefully we will see you aboard!
