Now for the fishing - with all that work we were just dying to get out so with very little ready we went for it anyway on a crew trip. Capt. Phil Dulanie and Capt. Dean ran the trip and I was working the pit. We fished a day trip on Friday which included a huge team effort, on board was Doc. Phil Infantalio, our cook – Chris “Woody” Wood of famed “Woody’s Restaurant” in Sea Bright, our entertainment – Billy Wrede and Jerry and a good friend and first time canyon runner Andy Taffin. Along for some training were new second mates Carl Geiger and Nolan Savastano.
We decided to take a nice easy trip leaving the inlet around 4am and using the 60 Ritchie’s speed we were in the Lindy by 7am even while slow going it for the first hour as we didn’t have light to run until 5am. Didn’t even get the second rigger down and we had 3 on – we picked away at bluefin landing 8 (releasing 6) by 8:30am. Bite died for a short while then we picked up 2 yellowfin and another 4 bluefin and about 20-30 big false albacore and a 15 pound mahi. The hot bar was Capt. Phil’s favorite blue/sliver mini-mamba Canyon Runner bar and our 9” Canyon Runner Rainbow Squids. Lures that produced best were small jets. The bluefin were 20-30 pounds all about 29-33 inches. The yellowfin were nicer – 35-40 pounds. The action was virtually constant as we only fishes just over 8 hours.
Some of our Canyon Runner fishing report members did even better fishing further to the south. One boat had 25 yellowfin 30-45 pounds and another had 15 in the same size. Again all in just a short day trip. The gentleman with 15 is a first year member just signing up recently and is knocking it out of the ball park doing great on his first two trips!

One of the biggest shouts out goes to Rob of BCD Innovations in Howell who installed a Crestron AirMedia System on the 60 Ritchie and it is second to none. A four zone system that I'm able to control audio, SAT TV and on-boat cameras in the master, salon, bridge and cockpit all at the same time from my cell phone. Speaker system is so loud Capts. Phil and Deane kept thinking the boat was slipping in and out of gear as we were blasting the bass. Thanks Rob!
