1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

After another terrible winter fishery, and long before the spring fishery that's been missing for many years, the Golden Eagle from Belmar found good mackerel jigging on Saturday. Herring were also present, but the report says it was 90 percent mackerel -- with high hooks jigging up to 75 or 80. The wind stopped them from fishing after that, but the Golden Eagle will start daily trips on Thursday. Also at Belmar Marina, the Ocean Explorer reported a few keeper cod Saturday along with some conger (silver eels) and dogfish. They hope to get out Tuesday, when the marine forecast calls for west winds of 15 to 20 mph, but dropping off to 10-to-15 mph. Wednesday should be warm with 15-20 SW dropping to 10-15. Thursday looks good with 10-to-15mph south winds before they gust to 30 at night.  Yet, Friday looks good again at NW 10-15 -- and just 10-15 north on Saturday. Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina, said winter flounder fishing remains very poor.
