Phil Sciortino sold fresh bunker to Don Derrick of Chester today at The Tackle Box in Highlands, and that angler returned later with by far the largest striped bass reported so far. The 31-pounder was caught on bunker chunks cast from Union Beach. Though stripers exploded on cast and trolled lures this week for boaters, that was also the first report I've received of a striper hitting bunker despite the fact that bunkers have been abundant in Raritan Bay for a couple of weeks. The only report from offshore was of good blackfishing on the Big Mohawk from Belmar during their first trip of the new tautog season. There probably won't be any boat fishing on Sunday, due to the forecast of west winds up to 60 mph after midnight. That wind was supposed to start Saturday afternoon, but it was just about calm in the evening.
