With winds whistling out of one direction or another, skippers have been unable to find a concentration of stripers in the ocean so far. Given that water temperatures of 45 to 47 degrees in the ocean aren't much lower than in Raritan Bay (where stripers are active), it seems likely that bass are also feeding along the coast. The Jamaica from Brielle cancelled it's weekend offshore cod trip, and will be seeking stripers Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Golden Eagle from Belmar will also be looking for stripers on Sunday. Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in that marina, reports some impressive blackfish are being brought in despite the rough seas. Capt. Steve Dellaportas of the charter boat Striper Sniper had one just over 10 pounds on Saturday. Smaller blackfish are being caught in Shark River Inlet as well as Point Pleasant Canal. Grumpy's Tackle on Seaside Park reported there was some good action Saturday in the bays with school bass on bloodworms and small plugs.
