Despite lots of boat traffic, and then the strong afternoon SW wind, party boat skippers reported very good fluke fishing in Raritan Bay. Capt. Stan Zagleski said there were several 6-to-7-pound fluke caught during an all-day bite on his Elaine B II out of Bahrs in Highlands, with the 7-pounder by Lee Jungmin of Edison taking the pool. Capt. Ron Santee said he had to use his throttles all day to get good drifts with his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands, but had some limits and many 3-to-8-pound fluke.  Capt. Rob Semkewyc changed his Sea Hunter from that port to fluking after running a Friday livelining trip that produced five stripers up to 32 pounds. After a hot big striper bite in the ocean on Friday, there was the expected slowdown on Saturday. At least that was the case for Mark Roy of Warren who fished his Release Me out of Manasquan Inlet after Mako Mania was postponed. There were small blues right outside the inlet, and we had no trouble snagging bunkers to the south, though they weren't in tight schools and we never marked anything under them. We saw one striper caught off Mantoloking, but Bob Correll said he saw at least five caught by other boats while not getting a hit from his Boston Whaler out of Bay Head. The magic hours bite has been the best bet when the wind isn't howling. The Jamaica from Brielle also found them Friday evening as Joe Latch from Pa. took the pool at 45 pounds. Capt. Dave Riback said his good bite of big bass didn't occur on the Queen Mary from Point Pleasant until after 8 p.m. that night The Queen Mary is chartered on Sunday. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported a couple of good bluefish shots this morning, followed by a pick of the 6-to-12-pounders on Run-Off Crocs and Hammered Jigs. Capt. Dave De Gennaro didn't have any luck trolling up to Seaside on Friday afternoon with his Hi Flier from Barnegat, but backtracked to Oyster Creek Channel where his party went two for four on hits from 14-pound stripers that hit clams. Saturday's ocean trolling worked out after there were no bunker found north of Barnegat Inlet. Stripers of 38 and 26 pounds hit big Mo-Jos, and a 43-pounder took a Tony Maja # 4 bunker spoon. De Gennaro is sailing open by reservation on Monday. Julian's Tackle in Atlantic Highlands weighed an 8-pound fluke for a very lucky angler as Angelo Alfano of Belleville caught it while fishing clam for sea bass at Sandy Hook Reef.
