The northwest wind that created tough fishing conditions on Sunday seemed to just about eliminate boat fishing today. The only report I could track down was from the Golden Eagle out of Belmar which got into some 2-to-5-pound bluefish on Run-Off jigs.
The Jamaica from Brielle got out Sunday evening, and found some stripers that were livelined or jigged on the Run-Off Casting Mo-Jo. Nate Boll from Pennsburg, Pa. boated a 40-pounder. It's possible to fish close to the Shore during a northwest gale.
I made a few casts into the cool northwester this morning, and came up with a 19-inch striper on a Tsunami Shad while also losing a small blue at the surface. There were a few other small bass and blues caught there, and on my last cast the shad came in with its tail cut off like a knife was used even though I never felt a touch through the braided line.
The NW wind is supposed to drop off tonight, and light winds are forecast for mid-week.
